The School of Nursing at Old Dominion University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time faculty position as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program Director. We are building a diverse faculty, and searching for a successful, creative and highly motivated individual to lead a growing advance practice program to educate neonatal nurse practitioners. The start date for the position will be July 25, 2021. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching and program administration of the master’s level NNP program, as well as the neonatal physician’s assistant certificate program. Appointment rank (tenured/tenure track/non-tenured clinical track) depends on years of experience as an NNP, previous teaching and program administration experience, as well as scholarly accomplishments and goals.

A fully equipped mother-baby simulation environment that includes multiple size neonatal/infant simulators, Panda® warmer, task trainers, Noelle® maternal and neonatal birthing simulator and more support the NNP program. The Graduate Program in the School of Nursing also offers unique opportunities for teaching and research through its Center for Telehealth Innovation, Education, and Research (C-TIER), a center that has become a national leader in telehealth education for healthcare providers and educators.

The School of Nursing maintains a strong relationship with The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, the only freestanding, full-service, not-for-profit children’s hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia. CHKD operates the region’s only level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 64 beds for the most critically ill newborns in the region, including infants transferred from military facilities and lower level NICUs at other hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina. CHKD annually admits approximately 500 infants to its NICU including 130+ ELBW infants <1,000 grams. A large cadre of neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal PA’s and pediatric medicine residents supports a team of 15 neonatologists.

The School of Nursing, located at the Higher Education Center in Virginia Beach, VA, is one of five professional schools in the College of Health Sciences, and has an average enrollment of 700 students including 15% African American, 9% Asian, 2% Latinx and 8% males. Certification pass rates for advanced practice graduates are above 95%, ranking ODU as one of the best schools in Virginia.
