Your role:
The Cardiac/Thoracic Operating Room Nurse Manager (Manager, Patient Care Services) will be responsible for managing two direct reports who are in the Clinical Staff Leader (CSL) role and will have overall responsibility for leading a team of 43 staff members. This team currently includes CSLs, OR nurses and surgical techs working in 6 operating rooms. We are seeking a candidate with experience in leadership or supervision in the operating room suite. Experience in cardiac surgery desired.

The Cardiac Operating Room Nurse Manager (Manager, Patient Care Services) provides leadership in the following areas:

• fiscal accountability
• maintaining quality and regulatory standards
• maintaining a high level of patient/family centered care and service
• patient and staff satisfaction
• program development
• managing and developing teams
• ensuring integration with the clinical enterprise
• providing feedback, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced peers and other members of the health care team

Department Summary:
Our program is a nationally recognized pioneer in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and transplantation. We currently offer a full complement of surgical interventions including:

• coronary artery bypass
• valve replacement
• congenital heart procedures
• surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation
• laser trans myocardial revascularization
• surgical ventricular restoration procedures
• cardiac transplantation
• total artificial heart and ventricular assist devices

Since 1925 Vanderbilt's Cardiac and Thoracic Surgical services have provided patients with the best heart and vascular care for almost 100 years. Many innovative techniques, tools and procedures were developed at Vanderbilt.

We perform a variety of thoracic procedures including:

• thoracic malignancies including that of lung, esophageal, mediastinal and pleura
• Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), robotics
• lung reduction surgery
• lung transplantation

ECMO National Leader
We are also a national leader in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Our ECMO experts provide life-saving care with a heart-lung machine for people whose serious illnesses prevent their hearts and lungs from working properly. Our ECMO experts work with a team of Vanderbilt specialists to treat the underlying condition.

Our large clinical volume, consisting of many complex and complicated procedures in all areas of pediatric, adult cardiac and thoracic procedures, assures patients that they are receiving the best care possible from some of the most experienced and expertly skilled surgeons in the country. Vanderbilt University Medical Center performed more heart transplants in 2020 than any other center in the world -- 124 adult hearts, 23 pediatric hearts and VUMC's first heart-lung transplant since 2006.
