The Ridge Behavioral Health System is seeking a dynamic and talented Registered Nurse Staff Educator. Located in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, The Ridge Behavioral Health System offers a healing environment that is reassuring to a patientsâ€™ sense of security and confidentiality. Dedicated to excellence, The Ridge Behavioral Health System is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a licensed, 110-bed hospital, providing psychiatric (mental health) and chemical dependency (drug & alcohol rehabilitation) services to children, adolescents and adults. Inpatient care is provided on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week. Outpatient and partial hospitalization services are provided on a six-day per week basis, days and evenings. The Registered Nurse Staff Educator plans, develops and coordinates continuing clinical and non-clinical in-service education programs within The Ridge BHS for all staff. The Staff Educator works with facility leadership and staff to assess current educational needs and develops a plan to satisfy those needs. The position also assists in ongoing revision and implementation of policies and procedures, protocol development and equipment implementation. This position is involved in the orientation of new staff and coordinates CPR certification for staff as needed. This position functions with limited supervision, and must be able to work effectively across all hospital departments. Additionally, the Staff Educator is expected to stay current on the latest care techniques within their own educational area of expertise.
Position Specific Competencies:
Surveys employees to identify needs for training and education
Training programs are based on information obtained from quality assessment/risk management and training activities
Assures staff trainings address any changes in health care management and health science and technology
Education and training programs address area of deficiencies identified via the performance appraisal system, peer reviews, chart audits, and recommendations from safety and infection control committee
The designs of the education and training programs are based on instructional strategies to enhance staff retention
Utilizes both internal and external training resources, which are cost effective
Training sessions begin on time and materials are covered in an efficient manner
Utilizes all opportunities presented to improve the quality of care provided.
Monitors facility functions to assess survey readiness and implements corrective actions as needed & indicated.
Sets up training/educational programs needed to remedy deficiencies identified during annual staff development survey, issues identified by observation, and as directed by the Director of Nursing and Risk Manager.
Designs educational training programs to maintain and improve the knowledge & skills of employees.
Education and training is based on the population served and the type of care provided by the department head.
Ensures that educational programs meet the overall needs of hospital staff.
The designs of educational programs are based on instructional strategies to enhance staff retention.
Works in collaboration with the Director of HR to coordinate new employee orientation (NEO) and to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Annually evaluates the content of NEO for staff appropriateness.
Conducts chart audits on a regular basis, enters the data collected, prepares a summary report of the data and incorporates the findings into new employee orientation materials and on unit training.
Observes new employees on the unit and provides reeducation as necessary.
Ensures the department specific orientation checklists are completed by the new employees preceptor(s) and is turned in to HR.
